As our campers continue to settle in and enjoy our first days of trips, exciting things are taking place with our older campers. Over the weekend, our Kahdalea and Chosatonga Junior Counselors set out into the wilderness for their Junior Counselor retreat. The Chosboys stepped into the unknown with Jeffrey Trufant on a multiday tear through the heart of Pisgah National Forest and the Kahdaladies joined Adam Trufant on an exciting journey through one of the many beautiful and wild river gorges close by.
Throughout these retreats, the JCs explored CKC’s core values while enjoying edifying talks in beautiful and rugged locations, mixing outdoor adventure skills growth with spiritual and human formation opportunities. In this fun medium of adventure travel, they experienced chances to take time to pray and reflect, and share enriching conversations, and to navigate challenges together. Most of our JCs have been campers for many years. This retreat has been something they have heard about and looked forward to for a long time! The power of the connection these boys and girls share will follow them for the rest of their lives.
The wilderness setting is a special learning environment, one which settles the heart and lifts the eye to the beauty of the created world. In this early summer setting, walking in the forests and gorges surrounding camp remind us of Genesis, when Adam walked with God “in the cool of the day”. We’re praying for our Junior Counselors and inviting them into leadership!
Here is a taste of some of the many talks shared on these retreats. There are also pictures to follow!
