One of the most beautiful things about CKC is the continuity of fun and enriching activities, games, and special programs cultivated here throughout the years. While many classic games and evening activities remain stable in our lives at camp, we are always excited to innovate, improve, and unveil fun and exciting new things with our campers. This year, we have introduced too many new things to count, but a few that have occurred this week are Cotillion and Fortnight.
While our Junior Counselor program has always enjoyed many wonderful privileges, perks, and special formation opportunities (like our JC retreat, JC night out, JCII day out, exclusive meetings with the directors, leadership formation, additional training, etc.), our Senior Hill at Chosatonga and Seminole Line and Kahdalea have been ripe for some new things. I cannot mention them all here (the best of our “camp magic” is reserved for attending campers 🙂 but it is safe to say that CKC is investing more in our oldest campers than we ever have before! A few of the improvements include gathering this older age group between the two camps for seminar style talks engaging a Christian exploration of issues like AI, healthy engagement with technology, and various virtues. We also welcomed Dr. Grattan Brown, the Director of Mission and Ministry at the Saint John Paul II National Shrine in Washington, DC, to give a talk on personal giftings and vocation. This talk, and all the others, have been well received and it has been a delight to witness the quality of conversation among our Seniors and Seminoles at the two camps.

Another fun improvement was a Cotillion evening. Held at Chosatonga, our Chosmen hosted our Kahdaladies for an evening of fine dining (including a top notch meal furnished by a professional chef hired just for this event), etiquette training, music, and fun! This was our first CKC Cotillion, but it will not be our last! There were rave reviews and it is safe to say it was a hit! Here is a short clip and some photos from our special evening.
The campers were served a four course meal. In between each course, our staff would present a fun and entertaining skit diving into some element of proper respect and etiquette. All of this was wonderfully well received – huge shoutout to our incredible Kahdalea camp moms, Kate and Kristen – their intentionality and touch brought this entire evening to the next level 🙂

Another popular innovation at Chosatonga this week included a new evening activity: “Fortnight”. Named after a popular video game, chosmen packed into the dining hall to build an epic fort and relax after several very busy days. When camp has been going full steam, sometimes a “zero evening” of childlike creativity is just what the doctor ordered. Here are some other pics from the last week!
