Can you believe it? Today marks one full week of camp! The energy at CKC has been incredible, and the campers have fully settled into the wonderful rhythm of mountain life. Friendships are solidifying, skills are growing, and the camp spirit is louder than ever. I am writing this blog later than I’d like to admit, and from the Chosatonga I hear the chirping and croaking of the frogs around the lake: what a beautiful place we live in.
We have been blessed with absolutely exceptional weather all week long. Today, we finally got our first real summer rainstorm, and the timing could not have been more perfect — rolling in just at rest hour. There is nothing quite like the cozy sound of rain on a cabin roof while taking a much-needed afternoon break. By the time our next block of activities rolled around, everyone was rested and the air was cooled down pleasantly.

Welcome Back, Adventurers!
Today was a big day for reunions as several of our out-of-camp trips rolled back through the gates. The stories they brought back were as epic as the trips themselves! The last two days showcased our first trips of the session. Oldtimers jumped at the opportunity to jump back into their favorite skills and places, and first timers had the opportunity to explore whatever interested them.
Wilderness took what is sure to be a memorable trip to Sam’s Knob; Paddlers were out working hard to master their strokes on Wolf Creek Lake; Climbers explored Cedar Rock and began working on teaching the principals of anchor building to our advanced guys and girls; and the bikers came back muddy and happy from Dupont State Forest and from tearing it up in drills on our our new pump tracks at each camp (we are stoked about those!).
Homefront:
Back in camp, the daily activities are buzzing. Campers are making fantastic progress in their Passports — their personal camp journals where they track their skills, milestones, and memories. Whether they are mastering a new technique in riflery, identifying a new plant in nature, or finishing a project in the craft shop, it is so rewarding to see them setting goals, working hard, and checking off their passport pages with pride.
All that learning and exploring works up quite an appetite! Our kitchen crew kept everyone happily fueled with a fantastic lineup today:
- Breakfast: Freshly baked scones, scrambled eggs, and savory sausage to start the day right.
- Lunch: A delicious Greek feast featuring falafel with all the fresh fixings.
- Dinner: Hearty, comforting white bean chicken chili to cap off a wonderful day.
A Note to Parents: Thank you for sharing your amazing kids with us. We are so proud of the community they are building and the courage they are showing every single day.
