Alpenglow – The Final Days of Camp :)

Jul 30, 2025 | Adam Trufant

There’s an extraordinary phenomena enjoyed by mountain lovers all throughout history. At the very beginning or very end of the days, when the sun is still on the horizon, the sun’s light on the hills carries a different hew. The visible warmth and soft touch of light at the beginning or end of the day marks a moment of transition, a moment of reflection and beauty. Today, our last trips are returning, our campers understand this is our last opportunity to be together and savor the sweetness of community together, and the energy is high. This will be a weekend to remember!

In these last days of our summer session, our campers will enjoy all sorts of wild, fun, silly, and sacred festivities. Our returning campers lean into these moments with pleasure and our first timers have much to look forward to!

As the ultimate trips trickle back into camp, our dinner tables are flooded with tales of fun and adventure – rapids run, summits conquered by foot or bicycle, rock faces scaled, horses saddled, laughs shared, and countless memories created surrounding challenges overcome or deep moments of shared connection. One of my personal favorite things in the final days of camp is to observe the hilarious consequences of silly campfire games come to bare. There are so many opportunities to smile and laugh together in our beautiful valleys – and we intend to make the best of every one!

The weather has been mild with scattered thunderstorms across the Blue Ridge. Rain or shine, we are ready to soak up EVERY SECOND we have left with our campers!

Here are a few photos from past days – God bless you!
