There are few moments more sacred at camp than our times surrounding the campfire.
“Kneel reverently when you light a fire. Kneel Reverently and thankful be for God’s unfailing charity…”
These words echo in the minds and hearts of Kahdaladies long after the sweet songs and Tajar Tales are over. “Kneel reverently”. I love the word “reverence”, here. It is just a campfire, but, somehow, when we all gather round the flame with our souls eager to receive every gift on offer in the moment, reverence fits the bill perfectly.
“Kneel Reverently and Thankful Be for God’s Unfailing Charity”. The warmth and light the fire provides does remind one of God’s powerful love. A Love that is capable of burning, purifying, healing, helping, feeding. It is not always comfortable, but it is good.
These fires are full of reflection, meaningful words shared, affirmations, awards, songs that stick in the heart and head, and smiles. There are waves of JOY in these meetings deep in a happy wood in the Kahdalea valley. Truly, once the masks of the world back home are shed, our campers are blissfully happy, wrapped in a sense of belonging long cultivated by the tender hands of Anne Trufant and those close to her.
It is such a gift to be here, to witness this, to savor the sweetness of community in this place.
“And on each ascending flame inspire a little prayer which shall upbear this sweet incense of warmth and light”
Ahhhhhh. I can hear the peaceful exhales of a hundred hearts. This, this is a place of rest and rejuvenation.
“For, here again, is sacrifice for your delight”
After all, our Father DELIGHTS in us. We all share a duty to delight in this day.
“…for the LORD will take delight in you… as a bridegroom rejoices over his bride, so your God will rejoice over you.” Isaiah 62:4-5
