Camp Nurse, Tiffany, and her daughter, Mae, at Kahdalea!

This is an important message from our wonderful camp nurse, Tiffany Taulbee, regarding some changes to the medical protocols at CKC for 2025. If you have any questions or would like Tiffany to give you a call, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our office! Tiffany has been with us for many years as a camper, camp parent, and camp nurse — we are so thankful to have her back for yet another smooth summer!

God bless, Jeffrey Trufant, Director

“I am so excited to be returning as Camp Nurse for the summer of 2025!  It is both an honor and a privilege to be a part of our amazing medical staff,  supporting our campers’ health and well-being so that they can thrive here.

As a camp mom myself, I know how hard it is to let go and entrust someone else with your child’s care. So rest assured that I am working alongside a team of dedicated camp staff to make improvements that will boost the safety and efficiency of our medical processes at camp.

New this year, we are requiring ALL parents to partner with CampMeds if you plan to send your child to camp with daily medication.

It is important to note that over the last 5 years, medication usage by youth and adolescents has increased significantly, presenting us with a need to re-evaluate our medication protocols.  Last year, nearly one in four campers came to camp with daily medication needs. Administering medication at camp is no small task, and one that we want to be done accurately and timely, every single time with no exceptions. We also want to exceed the standards of care set forth by the state and regulatory organizations such as the American Camping Association and the Alliance for Camp Health. To help us accomplish this, we partnered with CampMeds for the last two summers. The packaging used by CampMeds gave the nursing staff confidence that they were administering the right medication, to the right person, in the right dose, at the right time. This made medication administration accurate and swift during meal times or when packing for overnight trips out of camp. There is so much going on at camp that we don’t want your campers to miss, and CampMeds helped us keep your campers moving safely!

Our Infirmary/Health Hut is always ready!

New this year, we are requiring ALL parents to partner with CampMeds if you plan to send your child to camp with daily medication. This includes all prescription medication, in addition to Over The Counter (OTC) medication, vitamins, and supplements. Anything that your camper needs daily should be dispensed through CampMeds and their pharmacy partner. Here is a snapshot of how it works:

  1. Make a full list of every medication your child will NEED while at camp and make sure all of this is recorded on your camper’s Health Form! If they do not NEED to take something daily, we encourage you NOT to send it.
  2. Register your camper for CampMeds here
  3. CampMeds will send you a registration email with a letter attached. Give this letter to your prescriber, and it will explain how to submit prescriptions.
  4. Be aware of the items CampMeds will not package. These include insulin, any injectable medication, birth control, and Accutane. For a full list, click here
  5. For medications that CampMeds will not package, please send those to camp in a ziplock bag with your camper’s name, attached with the prescription or written instructions signed by a parent.
  6. Our Infirmary keeps stock of common OTC, first-aid remedies including antihistamines, analgesics, decongestants, cough drops, anti-itch creams, wound ointments, antacids, Miralax, and motion sickness medicine. You do not need to send these types of as-needed medications to camp.
  7. One of my favorite features of CampMeds: the automatic refill! All medications are dispensed in 30 day increments. If your camper is at camp for more than 30 days, an additional 30 day refill will automatically be sent to camp. If your camper is on any controlled medications, such as Concerta or Adderall, make sure your doctor sends a second 30-day prescription.
  8. A note about insurance: The pharmacy will not bill your insurance until camp begins, but to help ensure that your plan will cover medications for camp, please have your insurance put a “vacation override” for the CampMeds pharmacy for the start date of camp, which is when the claim will be submitted to your insurance.

CampMeds will send us your child’s medications prior to Opening Day. This will enable our nursing staff to reconcile everything with your child’s Health Form before your child even arrives at camp. We know Opening Day will be smoother than ever!

If you have a child with unique medical needs that need further assistance, please give the camp office  a call and they will get you in touch with me! I am happy to facilitate effective communication to all medical staff related to specific needs and instructions for your child. Thank you for allowing me to care for your children. God bless you!”
