Introducing the Newest Member of the CKC Team

Dec 14, 2023 | Adam Trufant

Meet Janet Howser! Janet joined our CKC full time staff in May, 2023. You’ll find her in the Office where she handles our Communications and Enrollment and a variety of office projects throughout the year. We asked her a few questions about herself.

Q: If you could go anywhere for a week with one person, all expenses paid, where
would you go, what would you do and who would you take?

A: I would go to Switzerland in search of unicorns and I would take my dog, Jade (she’s practically a person, only better).
Q: If you could have one superpower what would it be and why?
A: I would choose the ability to fly. I think it would be the ultimate sense of freedom.
Q: Where did you live and what did you do prior to moving to Brevard?
A: My husband and I moved to Brevard in 2018 to enjoy a somewhat slower pace of life and to immerse ourselves in the beautiful mountains. Prior to that, I lived most of my life in Augusta, GA. I had a very long and successful career as a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) and worked with clients and families of all ages. I also had a beautiful career as a dancer and choreographer as well as several years as a nationally certified massage therapist. I have a lot of interests and always enjoy new challenges!
Q: What inspired you to join the CKC team?
A: I was at a crossroad in my life and had been praying for the opportunity to join a faith based, christian community with a strong, purposeful service mission. I also had a big interest in working with a camp because attending camp each year was such an influential part of my childhood. When I met Adam and Jeffrey and learned about CKC, I knew the opportunity to join the team would be an incredible blessing. I am thankful every day to be here.
Q; What do you enjoy most about your role and working with CKC?
A: I love supporting a family owned business, the CKC mission and the variety of people I interact with including families, campers, staff, and community members. I enjoy the diversity of projects I handle each day and appreciate that no two days are the same. And of course, camp in the Summer is fantastic!
Q: Who have been some of your biggest influences and why?
A: My parents: They raised me and my siblings to be intelligent, compassionate and successful in all aspects of our lives. They worked hard, cared for others, and made sacrifices that paid off later. I am tremendously grateful they made sure we knew God and the importance of faith. And my husband, Onley: He is very generous in spirit, patience, and love. He’s one of those people you just can’t help but like. He has a wonderful sense of humor, which is definitely helpful if married to me, and he helps to keep things in perspective when I’ve gone a little too far towards the deep end. He makes me laugh out loud at life and myself everyday. He is one of my greatest blessings.

Q: What 3 words would your closest friends use to describe you?
A: Passionate, Resilient, Stubborn
Q: What’s something people might be surprised to learn about you?
A: I’m a PATH Certified Equine Specialist in Mental Health & Learning. I’m passionate about connecting people and horses in meaningful relationships. I spend a lot of my free time working with therapeutic riding programs and assisting with Equine Facilitated Wellness Retreats. It’s another opportunity to use my skills to help others in a profound way.
Q: Do you have a favorite scripture or quote?
A: One of my favorite scriptures is Proverbs 3:5-6: Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. One of my favorite quotes and best motivator: Be fearless in the pursuit of what sets your soul on fire!
